It’s short but sweet. Logic’s “It’s Not A Game” featuring Lucy Rose, gets the nod this week. Punchy Dilla-esque beats, rhythmic flows and luscious vocals all combine to make something of a rarity nowadays… a nice hip-hop track.
“Universal Flow” from Jorge Montiel & Juan Laya features Andre Espeut on the first of two tracks he shows up on as a guest vocalist. (Must be a coincidence). Vocoders, disco beats, falsetto vocals all combine to make a solidly danceable, classy, mid-tempo track.
Mishell Ivon’s “Disco Daydream” is a straight throwback gem back to the 80’s. The “Vogue” talk-rap, old-skool synth b-line, breaks and a catchy chorus make it a very nice floor-filler. It’s proof that disco hasn’t quite dead… yet!
Andre Espeut shows up next on Situation’s “Never Thought I’d Get Ya” We’ve opted for the Dom Thompson remix) because it’s a bit truer to the funky origins and holds a nice tempo for that easy dance floor groove that doesn’t force you to break out into a sweat.
You could be fooled into thinking you jumped into a time-machine when you hear the instrumental cut of X-Ray Ted, Dr Syntax & Professor Elememtal’s “Get Loose“. Bar-kay horns, Bobby Byrd/James Brown chants and a solid rare-groove feel make this a future samplers delight.
